The Programs in Physical Therapy at Columbia University invites applications for a full-time (12-month) faculty position. The successful candidate will primarily co-teach in the diagnostic imaging and therapeutic interventions threads and musculoskeletal courses addressing evidence-based physical therapy management of individuals with musculoskeletal dysfunction. Responsibilities of core faculty include teaching, scholarship, service, and student advisement. Opportunities exist for clinical teaching or practice at the Columbia University Physical Therapy Faculty Practices (Columbia Doctors) and/or clinical (bedside) teaching with our DPT student at New York Presbyterian (CUIMC).
The candidate will join a team of 18 core faculty, 10 clinical faculty, and numerous adjunct faculty from New York Presbyterian (CUIMC) and the surrounding tri-state area who are experts in their fields and committed to excellence. The DPT Program is currently modifying it curriculum to transition to a framework that emphasizes competency based education and the master adaptive learner. We seek a candidate who will pursue excellence in physical therapy through intellectual curiosity, evidence-based teaching, and scholarly inquiry. About Us:
Columbia University is a research-one institution, home to 17 undergraduate and graduate schools.The Programs of Physical Therapy is housed, along with the Programs in Medicine, Occupational Therapy, Genetic Counseling, Human Nutrition, and Biomedical Sciences within theVagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. The Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, College of Dental Medicine, Mailman School of Public Health, and School of Nursing are located at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center campus in Washington Heights, New York City. The location of the health professions programs on the medical center campus provide opportunities for interprofessional education and practice along with research collaborations.
The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program is a full-time, three-year curriculum, with 36 weeks of clinical education experience (full-time). Along with the core curriculum, the DPT program offers a customized education tailored to the individual student passions and professional goals through advanced track seminars and electives. The Programs in Physical Therapy also consist of a post-professional Clinical Residency in Orthopedic Physical Therapy, Performing Arts Fellowship, Doctor of Education in Movement Science (Physical Therapy) in collaboration with Teachers College, and two outpatient physical therapy Faculty Practices in Washington Heights and Tarrytown, NY. Minimum qualifications:
A terminal academic doctorate degree (PhD, EdD, DSc or equivalent)
A minimum of five years clinical experience with individuals with musculoskeletal dysfunction.
Board certification as an orthopedic clinical specialist (OCS)
Teaching and mentoring experience
A scholarly record
Applicants must be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice physical therapy in New York.
Preferred Qualifications:
A candidate with a clinical doctorate and OCS certification or who has extensive clinical experience with the musculoskeletal population and is currently pursuing a terminal academic doctoral degree may be considered.
