Job Summary
The School of Kinesiology at the University of Michigan invites applications for one or more Lecturer I position(s), commencing August 25, 2026. This Per-Term role will have an initial appointment of up to 1 year for biomechanics courses, with the potential for renewal based on school needs, the candidate's expertise, and availability. For scientific writing courses, the initial appointment will be for one term, with the potential for renewal based on school needs, the candidate's expertise, and availability. This position ranges from 25-100% teaching. Primary teaching responsibilities will include teaching and course design for undergraduate students in Movement Science (MVS). The School is seeking candidates with a strong background in both of the following areas:
Biomechanics: Candidates should be prepared to teach lectures and labs that mentor students in the application of classical mechanics principles to analyze human musculoskeletal function, forces, and motion. It features laboratory experiences where students analyze movement data. This includes teaching established required courses in the School (MVS 330 - Biomechanics of Human Movement) as well as teaching new or established elective courses related to biomechanics. New courses would ideally be related to sports biomechanics.
Scientific Writing: Candidates should be prepared to teach and mentor students in the writing process, particularly within intensive writing courses designed to build proficiency in analyzing, synthesizing, and clearly presenting research findings in kinesiology. This is an established course in the School (MVS 219 - Scientific Writing).
Instructional duties include, but are not limited to:
Provide high-quality instruction.
Create and contribute to the course syllabus and lesson plans.
Produce relevant and reliable assessment tools and conduct routine assessments to evaluate student progress throughout the semester.
Maintain student progress and attendance records, and determine and enter final grades for the course.
Meet with students outside of class during office hours as needed.
Attend and participate in program and school meetings as needed.
Biomechanics Courses: The successful candidate must have a Ph.D in kinesiology or a related field and have expertise in biomechanics.
Scientific Writing Course: A Ph.D. is preferred, master's degree considered, in kinesiology or a related field,and must have expertise in scientific writing.

Teaching experience in higher education, with documented success, is desirable. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in the field of sports biomechanics, as the program seeks to grow the number of elective courses in this area.
