The research enterprise in the Department of Surgical Sciences (DSS) includes both clinical and basic science research by multidisciplinary research groups. This is a position within Comparative Orthopaedic and Genetics Research Laboratory, for which there are two Principal Investigators.

The Comparative Orthopaedic and Genetics Research Laboratory is located in the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Wisconsin-Madison. Research within the laboratory is focused on studies of spontaneous diseases in companion animals as models for human disease.

Outside of the School, the laboratory has a long history of strong collaborative relationships with investigators in the School of Medicine, the College of Engineering, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and data science researchers in several departments across campus, as well as collaborations with other institutions and corporate entities.

• 50% Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
• 15% Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
• 20% Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
• 10% Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
• 5% Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers

Preferred

REQUIRED:
* Laboratory experiences beyond undergraduate course associated labs
* Experience with PCR, DNA and RNA isolation or similar techniques

PREFERENCE:
* Experience with molecular biology, RT-PCR, ELISA, western blotting
* Experience with immunohistochemistry
* Experience with histopathology and electron microscopy
* Experience with experimental animal handling

Full Time: 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
