This job involves serving as a senior leader with oversight of various aspects of a department, including its education and research missions. The role includes acting as a liaison to health systems across Minnesota with which the department has crucial partnerships including contracts.. Additionally, the position requires being a visible thought leader for both staff and physicians, ensuring collaboration, strategic direction, and operational excellence.
This position will be performed in a hybrid work environment. Work is performed in a planned split between on-site and remote locations. The supervisor will determine the appropriate balance that meets the needs of the department and the other priorities for workplace flexibility.
Budgetary/Financial (30%)
Analyze clinical and academic expense year, including a review of overhead.
Provide oversight approval for all spending/purchasing activities.
Management of all annual budgeting processes for all missions of the department.
Review mission budgeting quarterly with finance.
Participation and understanding of provider compensation.
Participation in compensation and advisory board committee meetings.
Participate in the design of services from the Surgical Administrative Center (SAC).
Problem solves as it relates to SAC services.
Manage Department Leaders and Staff (20%)
Supervision of the:
Education Manager
Communication Specialist
Research Manager
Administrative Team
Hire and supervise the performance, growth, and development of leaders and staff across the department.
Develop and foster a collaborative, engaged, adaptable, and high-trust team environment.
Develop and foster an inclusive workplace where diversity and individual differences are valued; actively work to find solutions to barriers impacting diversity and inclusion.
Provide timely, actionable, and constructive feedback to department leaders and staff; participate in both annual and regular performance, development, and goal-setting discussions.
Work with leaders and staff to achieve their career goals within the context of the department and university.
Work closely with leadership, human resources, and other stakeholders to implement employee programs and initiatives; partner with human resources on employee relations and performance issues.
Strategic partner to external relationships including Regions, HealthPartners, TRIA, Methodist, Park Nicollet, and CentraCare (15%)
Management and oversight of contracts.
Attend contracting meetings as full participant.
First line of contact with relationship partners.
Dyad to site leaders within external health systems.
Act as a thought leader around development and vision with partners.
Oversight of University/UMP recruitment for physicians in crescent health systems.
Oversight of staff employed in the crescent health systems.
Act as an advisor to the Chair (10%)
Participate in meetings as needed to support the Chair.
Manage meetings (i.e., department compensation, department strategy, Chair leadership meeting, annual faculty retreat).
Participate fully as a member of all groups stated above.
Work with Chair direct reports to ensure timely completion of assignments and directives.
Serve as a thought partner to offer varied perspectives.
Give feedback as requested.
Track and collect information as needed to make informed decisions.
Oversee all communications related to the Chair on their behalf.
Act as a liaison for the Chair to Departmental Leadership, Medical School, Faculty, Staff, and all external stakeholders.
Strategic partner for department operations and engaging Chair as needed (10%)
Oversight and strategist for all departmental staffing.
Oversight strategist for all departmental finances.
Understand/review annual budgeting as it relates to all missions.
Work with the Surgical Administrative Center on many aspects of the group.
Ensure efficient operations within the department.
Partner with the Musculoskeletal (MSK) Service Line (10%)
Attend MSK service line meetings.
Partner with operations dyad to facilitate operational changes.
Participate in recruitment of physicians within the Joint Clinical Enterprise (JCE).
Knowledge of Advanced Practice Providers (APP) hiring within JCE
Oversight regarding the onboarding process for JCE.
Oversight of recruitment within the JCE.
Facilitate effective decision-making (5%)
Develop short and long-term strategies for the department.
Execution of strategies.
Oversight of daily operations across the department (10%)
Including but not limited to:
Work with external partners
Best practices for the department
Process improvement
Daily activates
Engagement
Other responsibilities or duties as assigned by the Chair.
Required (must be listed on resume):
BA/BS with a minimum of 8 years of related experience in a healthcare or academic setting, including a minimum of 5 years in a management role with direct supervision experience, including budgetary and contractual responsibility
Strong service orientation, oral and written communication skills, judgment, and the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
Demonstrated project management skills.
Demonstrated conflict management skills.
Demonstrated ability to develop professionally and assume increasing levels of responsibility.
Ability to maintain and create a cohesive work culture.
Ability to manage work within multiple systems amidst changing priorities and within ambiguous environments.
Experience in Academic and Clinical environments.
Preferred:
Masterâ™s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
Management experience in an academic, research, health care, or similar setting, ideally with a physician leader.
Knowledge of the administrative requirements associated with sponsored research and physician practice management.
