Responsibilities: During the postdoctoral appointment, Mechanobiology Postdoctoral Fellows will be mentored by two (or more) members of Northeastern's core faculty at the Institute for Mechanobiology (IfM) in Boston, MA (see https://mechanobiology.northeastern.edu/our-faculty for list of the IfM core faculty). This position has an initial 2-year appointment, renewable for one additional year, contingent upon outstanding accomplishments and successful external funding support. The position will be associated with one of the following specialization areas:
1. Mechanobiology in aging in the musculoskeletal system or the cardiovascular system: this area focuses on the application of mechanobiology technology and discovery to the aging research. 2. Immunomechanobiology: this area covers the study that intersects the research areas of mechanobiology with immunology. 3. Biomaterio-mechanobiology: this area levarages novel biomaterial designs to advance mechanobiology and mechanotherapeutics. 4. Neuromechanobiology: this area focuses on discovering the mechanobiological basis of neurons, neural networks, and the brain in memory, learning, cognitive function in health and neurodegenerative diseases.
5. Oncomechanobiology: this area focuses on mechanobiological basis of development, stem cells, and cancer, with the aim to discover new pathways of intervention in pathological conditions.
6. Mechanobiology in health: this area focuses on discovering the mechanobiological basis of whole-body functions in health and in diseases.
7. Mechanobiology technology applied to mechanodiagnostics and mechanotherapeutics.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. in engineering, science, or health-related fields by the time of appointment. Candidates are not required to have any prior working experienceWe expect postdoctoral fellows to establish and advocate for best practices in scientific reproducibility of all results, and to promote the ethical use of data and algorithms.
The candidate should have the following skills:
Strong technical, analytical, and quantitative abilities;
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, and the willingness to work with multiple researchers, technical staff, post-docs, and graduate/undergraduate students in an interdisciplinary environment;
Must be able to exercise judgement and discretion, and to prioritize and manage multiple tasks; and
Excellent written and oral presentation skills for reaching audiences both in and out of one's own field
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
85% - Co-develop with faculty members at IfM, collaboratively lead, and participate in and carry out research projects that advance scientific knowledge which solve relevant societal and industrial problems. Participation in these projects will include supervising/mentoring graduate/undergraduate students, scientific programming, data analysis, manuscript preparation, meeting with collaborators, etc.
15% Assist in Securing sufficient and pertinent research funding to supplement finances by preparing research grants applications.
