The Departments of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation and Mechanical Engineering at Stony Brook University seek an Assistant Professor, Tenure Track, with expertise in clinical and preclinical kinematics, kinetics, and biomechanics to advance the research goals of both departments. The incumbent will be expected to collaborate with current faculty, as well as mentor fellows, residents, graduate students, and undergraduate students. Furthermore, the incumbent will be expected to develop an independent extramurally funded research portfolio.
Job Duties:
Conduct research in engineering-medicine research pertaining to orthopaedic surgery, computer-assisted surgery, and Raman spectroscopy in cancer diagnosis.
Conduct research in processing computer tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images of patients to construct 3D anatomic models of the hip and knee and examine the optimal surgical implantation of joint replacements.
Perform system integration of engineering-medicine systems using hardware (such as cameras and projectors) and software programming (such as MATLAB, C++, and/or Python).
Design, assess and optimize upper and lower limb prostheses, jigs for surgery, and resection.
Manage multiple projects with a high degree of independence.
Mentor teams of researchers/students and collaborate with clinicians.
Disseminate research results through publications in journals and presentations in conferences.
Secure external (federal, state, industry, foundation) funding to support collaborative and independent research activities.

Required Qualifications:
PhD in engineering and/or medicine research.
Minimum of 5 years of postdoctoral training.
Experience in performing human hip and knee kinematics, kinetics, and biomechanics.
Programming skills (e.g., MATLAB, ABAQUS, and Python).
A strong publication track record.
Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent interpersonal skills and track record of effective team collaboration.
Teaching experience in graduate and undergraduate courses.
Experience in analysis and research in human motion, sports and ergonomics.
Experience in programming a six-degree of freedom robotic manipulator and a six-degree-of-freedom load cell to test cadaveric specimens.
Experience in motion capture (Vicon system), muscle activity measurements (Delsys system), force platforms (Kistler), wearable technology, and data analysis.
