Position Summary This position is a principal contributor to new and ongoing research projects focused on clinical biomechanics, VR and AR applications to rehabilitation, and new technologies in imaging with a focus on the shoulder, knee, hand, and spine. Plan and perform laboratory experiments, data collection, and analysis required to complete assigned clinical projects. In addition, this position is required to publish original research in peer review journals, along with assisting in writing grants and progress reports to funding agencies. Participate in day-to-day laboratory management duties and coordinate and direct the work and research tasks of research staff.
Duties & Responsibilities
Research
Refine and develop new research approaches based on project requirements. Develop objectives, initiate, and execute multiple research projects under institutional and government regulations. Conduct, coordinate, and troubleshoot advanced laboratory experiments using various bio-analytical methods and instrumentation. Conceptualize and create computer tomography-based finite element models. Design and execution of research experiments using cadaveric specimens. Collect and analyze laboratory data using quantitative and statistical methods. Advise on new directions for research projects based on experimental results. Work closely with graduate students, residents, orthopaedic surgeons, and medical students.
Communications
Prepare and organize laboratory data and write laboratory reports. Author and co-author articles for publications and present research findings in scientific meetings. Support the lab director with grant writing and in the supervision of student and orthopedic residents' research.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
A terminal degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in a scientific field (engineering, biomedical, physics, or biochemistry) is required. A minimum of one-year experience in scientific research is preferred.
Preferred job knowledge and skills: engineering and biomechanics, bio-engineering, FEA, some knowledge of instrumentation, experimental testing, and Matlab or Labview software.
