Position Summary The Athletic Trainer will assist physicians and provide education and training to patients. Participate in the prevention, assessment, treatment, (including first aide) reconditioning and rehabilitation of sports related injuries for patients under the care of a physician as set forth by the NATA Board of certification.
Duties & Responsibilities
Develop and carry out rehabilitation programs for injured athletes. Discuss specific injuries and treatment options or evaluate and treat patients as directed by a physician.
Act as the liaison with pharmacy, MRI, radiology, other hospital departments and outside physical therapists and physicians regarding patient information.
Plan and implement comprehensive programs to prevent injury and illness from athletics.
Collect data relative to patient history and mechanism of injury and report findings to physician. Collect data for input to research. Review data with physician.
Recognize and evaluate injuries. Provide first aid or emergency care as needed.
Perform and evaluate post-operative functional/physical performance testing, i.e. strength testing and jump testing.
Develop, review and refine patient home exercise/rehabilitation programs and patient education programs, including injury prevention.
Apply protective or injury-preventive devices; includes the proper taping, strapping, bracing, and fitting of athletic equipment. Apply and remove casts.
Perform administrative tasks, such as keeping records and writing reports on injuries and treatment programs
Interpret patients' medical information to schedule of MRIs, nuclear medicine tests and other diagnostic tests, including pre-certifications and other insurance company requirements.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree
Certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association
Current and valid license by the State of Illinois as a Certified Athletic Trainer
Current CPR certification
Ability to recognize the needs and behaviors of the physically active population at all age levels
