Position Description
The University of Washington (UW) School of Medicine is seeking exceptionally qualified candidates for Chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. The position is full-time and tenured with appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. This is a 12-month service period per year position (July - June) with an anticipated start date of Summer 2023. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.
The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington is consistently ranked as one of the top Rehabilitation Medicine departments in the United States. The department has more than 140 faculty that span clinical, research, and educational programs including the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) residency, Doctor of Physical Therapy, Masters of Occupational Therapy, Masters of Prosthetics and Orthotics, Rehabilitation Psychology, and Rehabilitation Sciences Ph.D. programs. The clinical faculty provide the highest quality rehabilitation care at five UW medicine campuses and several outpatient clinics throughout the Seattle region. Multidisciplinary teams provide comprehensive rehabilitation services to improve the function, level of independence and quality of life of people throughout the Pacific Northwest. UW Medicine includes 7000 regular and clinical faculty, 4600 students and trainees, admitting 64,000 patients and providing outpatient care for 1.6 million patients annually.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively to direct the clinical, research, and educational programs of the department. The successful candidate will also be expected to have a strong clinical practice and lead clinical programs, and maintain the Department's excellence in research, and administration. The successful candidate must lead with excellence in educating, mentoring, and working with faculty, administration, residents, and students from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds. In addition to being a leader in clinical care and educational programs, the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine is also consistently ranked as one of the top rehabilitation research departments in the United States. In FY2021 the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine received awards from government and private sources totaling more than $11 million. UW School of Medicine is second in the nation in total research grants and contracts. There are strong regional and national research affiliations that enable our internationally recognized faculty to remain on the cutting edge of education, research, and clinical care.
UW Medicine serves as the primary medical school teaching program for the WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho). U.S. News & World Report has ranked the UW School of Medicine as one of the top primary care medical schools in the nation. The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine's highly regarded PM&R residency program has been ranked in the top five for rehabilitation programs nation-wide since the late 1990's, and the inpatient rehabilitation unit at UWMC has been ranked in the top five by US News and World Report.

Salary
The base salary range for this position will be: $24,167 - $33,750 per month ($290,004 - $405,000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.
Other Compensation
Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive pay and an administrative salary supplement for administrative service as department chair.

Qualifications
Successful candidates must possess an MD, DO or foreign equivalent and a record of sustained local and national leadership . Candidates must be board-certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and eligible for a medical license in Washington State.
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or foreign equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
