Job Duties: (The following description does not include all possible tasks in this work and does not limit the assignment of related tasks in this position.) 75% - Carry out complex, multi-step laboratory procedures employing a wide range of cell and molecular biology methods through the instruction of the PI and senior researchers involving animal models. 10% - Data analysis and presentation Maintain electronic and paper laboratory notebook detailing all procedures and results. Use analysis of data to prepare written and oral progress reports and present to the PI and research group at weekly lab meetings. Reading of relevant publications regarding updates in processing methods that could be implemented in our laboratory. 10% - General laboratory responsibilities including: ordering supplies, organizing and stocking supplies, maintaining equipment and apparatus, organizing and cleaning laboratory workspaces, preparing common reagents, assisting in generating SOPs, proper removal of hazardous and chemical waste. 5 % - Direct and supervise laboratory personnel. Supervision of Junior researchers Provide troubleshooting and problem solutions regarding cell and molecular biology methods.
All required qualifications must be documented on application materials
Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science, or related field plus one year of lab experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience to equal 5 years.
Experience working with research animals and working knowledge of animal models of disease, including experience with survival surgeries
Experience with cell culture models
Ability to update and manage collected data electronically in the laboratory database
Must be willing to work a flexible work week; core lab hours are 9 am to 5:30pm
Must be able to lift 50lbs by oneself, must be able to sit and stand for long periods
Must rotate on an on-call schedule for evenings, weekends, and holidays
Experience with in vitro osteoclastogenesis assays
Experience maintaining transgetic mouse colonies
Experience with ovariectomy surgeries in mice or other murine models of musculoskeletal degeneration
Experience with micro-computed tomography to quantify bone mass and microarchtecture
Experience with ordering supplies through the University system
Experience keeping detailed laboratory records
Familiarity with general laboratory duties (reagent preparation, chemical inventories, lab safety, equipment maintenance)
