In 2017, UC Davis embarked on a $2 billion capital campaign which is on track to be completed in 2024. UC Davis Health is a critical pillar in this campaign, responsible for raising a quarter of this goal. Development and philanthropy continue to grow at UC Davis at a remarkable pace. Fiscal year close 2021 marked the most successful achievement in UC Davis' history with $269 million in total dollars raised.
Part of UC Davis Health, the School of Medicine is nationally ranked in the top 10 for diversity (3rd), family medicine (7th), and primary care (8th). The first graduating class celebrates their 50 anniversary this spring. In addition to being ranked as one of the country's best medical schools, UC Davis Health has a 619-bed acute-care teaching hospital, a 1,200+ member physician's practice group, and the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing. It is also home to an NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, an international neurodevelopmental institute, a stem cell institute, and a comprehensive Children's Hospital. Additionally, UC Davis Health is home to other nationally prominent centers focused on advancing telemedicine, improving vascular care, eliminating health disparities, and translating research findings into new treatments for patients.
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Assistant Vice Chancellor (AVC), the Managing Executive Director of Development (MEDOD), Medical Programs is responsible for the development of the overall strategic design and implementation of a robust and comprehensive fundraising program to include the following clinical, education and research areas within the School of Medicine: Emergency Medicine, Family and Community Medicine, Surgery, Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, Orthopaedic Surgery, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, OB/Gyn, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Radiology, Internal Medicine and divisions, and Medical Education.
The MEDOD is also responsible for managing a fundraising team and directs the identification, solicitation and stewardship of prospects/donors; mentoring and developing colleagues in the successful achievement of fundraising metrics; and the development of fundraising materials, marketing plans, and development events/programs. The MEDOD oversees all alumni engagement activities including MD, resident and fellow alums. The MEDOD also carries a portfolio of major and principal gift donors and prospects.

The MEDOD will manage a fundraising staff comprised of four fundraising professionals, one alumni engagement professional, and three related administrative support staff:
Executive Director of Development: 1.0 FTE
Senior Director of Development: 1.0 FTE
Associate Director of Development: 2.0 FTE
Director of Alumni Engagement: 1.0 FTE
Analyst: 1.0 FTE
Administrative Assistant: 2.0 FTE

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum:
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in comprehensive development and fundraising programs in the fields of health sciences and/or higher education. Experience in an academic health system preferred.
Advanced knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor and public relations including advanced knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulation, policies, etc.
Excellent knowledge of leadership/management skills concepts, procedures, techniques and best practices.
Excellent leadership/management skills to select, train, mentor, evaluate and motivate staff.
Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including excellent political acumen skills, to build and maintain effective working relationships within all organizational levels and with outside constituencies.
Excellent skills in meeting predetermined goals and objectives, including securing gifts and meeting fundraising goals.
Excellent strategic planning, critical thinking, analytical, problem solving, persuasion/negotiation, conflict resolution, and marketing skills.
Experience with staffing and mentoring organizational leadership.
Demonstrated ability to lead and manage colleagues.
Demonstrated ability to prepare and manage budgets.
Experience recruiting, training, evaluating, motivating, and coaching employees of various backgrounds and identities. Documented experience building a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion amongst team members.
Preferred:
Knowledge of UC Davis Health, its achievements, vision, mission, goals, objectives, applicable policies, infrastructure and current issues of concern, and knowledge of issues of concern for higher education in general.
Extensive experience managing a team of fundraisers preferred.
7+ years of fundraising experience with a focus on major gifts preferred.
Capital campaign experience and experience working with patients preferred.
Experience with effectively structuring and working with advisory boards and interest groups desired.
Exhibit knowledge of organizational effectiveness, health and safety, and commitment to diversity.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Must be able to work occasional nights and weekends. Travel is required.
