The Clinical Research Assistant-II will assist Orthopaedic providers as assigned with their clinical research activities related to total joint arthroplasty / arthroscopy and sports medicine.
The duties of this position will include, but are not limited to the following:
Becoming educated in institutional, state and federal research policies by attending trainings and workshops, and through self-directed learning;
Assisting in preparing new protocols for IRB submission;
Updating and maintaining all IRB documents for continuing review and ongoing modifications;
Assisting in preparing grant proposals;
Attending meetings pertaining to research activities, and assisting in the planning andimplementation of research protocols including subject screening, study appointment scheduling, responding to inquiries regarding the protocols, collecting/maintaining research data;
Development and maintenance of research databases.
Attending orthopaedic clinic and surgery, and interacting with patients in order to collect pre- and post-treatment information.
Interacting with orthopaedic residents (weekly) and medical students (quarterly) in the simulation laboratory in order to direct simulation activities and collect data for medical education research (for example, photographs and videos of knee and shoulder arthroscopy for evaluation by faculty).
Bachelor's Degree (4 year) with major courses in field of research/no experience, or AA/RN (2 years) and 3 years of relevant experience.
AA/RN (2 years) and 3 years of relevant experience, or FOR INTERNAL PROMOTIONS ONLY: 2 years as an OHSU RA 1.
Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Competencies):
Knowledge of Federal human subjects in research protections and HIPAA regulations.
Knowledge of IRB procedures.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
Typing, editing, proof reading skills.
Analytical and extremely detail oriented.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Working conditions: Daily hours will vary with responsibilities. Clinic hours are Monday - Friday; 8:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Occasional early or late hours may be needed, in particular to accommodate involvement with surgical cases (7:30 am start) and surgical education sessions (6:30 am start).
Prior research experience.
Familiarity with basic statistics.
Prior database management experience.
Exceptional computer skills and ability to learn new software.
