Position description
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery within the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego (http://ortho.ucsd.edu/) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body. We are seeking a research scientist or clinician-scientist who has a cutting-edge, translational research program in musculoskeletal physiology and disease.
Responsibilities include: directing a successful research program, engaging teaching in the classroom and laboratory training of UCSD undergraduate, graduate, and medical students, and residents, and service to the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
The appropriate series and appointment will be at the Associate or Full Professor Rank based on candidate's experience and qualifications. Series will include Ladder Rank and In-Residence with secured extramural funding.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales. Appointments may require candidates to be self-funded. As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited. Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Qualified applicants must have an PhD in Orthopaedics, Bioengineering, Physiology, Biology, or other health related fields or an MD or equivalent.
Preferred qualifications
Candidates with research expertise in basic science and clinical aspects of structure-function relationships in musculoskeletal tissues are preferred. Candidates with a career track record of cross-disciplinary research, including independent research funding, publications related to their translational research program, and a demonstrated record of collaboration, particularly with other clinical Departments and faculty and ability to convey a clear vision of this are also preferred.
