The Department of Veterinary Pathobiology, (http://vetmed.tamu.edu/vtpb), in partnership with the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences (http://vetmed.tamu.edu/sacs), College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (CVMBS), Texas A&M University is seeking a motivated individual for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track or tenure review upon hire faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the area of biomedical genetics. The anticipated starting date for this position is January 2023 or as negotiated. Candidates using genetic approaches to investigate spontaneously occurring or genetically-induced disease etiology, pathophysiology, and treatment (including gene therapy) in comparative animal models (including mouse, companion animals and/or production animals) are encouraged to apply. Particular areas of basic, translational and clinical research strength in the College include biomedical genomics, sciences, internal medicine, musculoskeletal disease & regeneration, neuroscience, oncology, environmental health sciences, infectious diseases and biodefense, reproductive biology, and toxicology. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain an active, federally funded research program, engage in interdisciplinary and collaborative research across the College, and teach in the undergraduate, graduate or veterinary professional programs. This position offers a unique and outstanding opportunity for the successful candidate to collaborate with veterinary clinician scientists and advance clinical and translational research.
The Department of Veterinary Pathobiology includes over 50 faculty members and 65 graduate students with diverse backgrounds and research interests. The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences includes approximately 60 faculty, 55 house officers, and 17 graduate students representing > 10 collaborative specialty services with diverse clinical, teaching and research efforts. The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (https://vethospital.tamu.edu/) receives over 30,000 small and large animal cases per year and provides an outstanding environment to support clinical trials and research. The College strongly encourages collaborative research activity and is a role model for “One Health” through its research affiliations with a variety of sister institutions, including the Texas A&M Health Science Center, Texas Medical Center, the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, the Texas Heart Institute, and the Texas Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory.
Research in biomedical genomics is supported by several graduate programs. The CVMBS Biomedical Sciences graduate program has tracks in Biomedical Genomics & Bioinformatics, Diagnostics & Therapeutics, Infection, Immunity & Epidemiology, and Physiology & Developmental Biology. Texas A&M University has a large interdisciplinary graduate program in Genetics and Genomics with a diverse range of specialties including Bioinformatics and Genomics, Medical Genetics, and Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Genetics.
State-of-the-art core facilities, including live animal imaging, flow cytometry, genomics, BSL-2 and -3 labs and excellent AAALAC-accredited ABSL-2 and -3 facilities are available at the University, including a brand-new AgBSL-3 Global Health Research Complex that was opened in 2021. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, or other related field with an emphasis on genetic/ genomic investigations of disease conditions. Academic rank and salary are commensurate with experience. Candidates hired to the rank of Associate Professor are expected to have an established, federally funded research program. Candidates hired to the rank of Assistant Professor should have a successful postdoctoral training experience with a record of research excellence and strong potential for obtaining competitive federal grants to support their research. A strong track record of peer-reviewed publications is required and evidence of potential for teaching and mentorship is encouraged.
