All of UW Medicine’s radiologists are board-certified and specialize in a variety of areas such as neuroradiology, body radiology, interventional radiology, musculoskeletal radiology, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, mammography and chest radiology. Imaging findings are integrated with all clinical data to generate comprehensive and actionable patient assessments.
UW MEDICAL CENTER - ROOSEVELT has an outstanding opportunity for a temporary/hourly, dayshift, RADIOLOGY TECHNOLOGIST.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Produces high quality diagnostic radiographs. Competent in the use of all radiology equipment, which includes but is not limited to: fluoroscopic, mobile and surgical equipment, as well as all relevant computer systems. Assists the Radiologist and other physicians with a wide range of sterile procedures, assuring patient safety, comfort, and confidentiality. Performs a variety of routine invasive and non-invasive diagnostic and interventional procedures such as myelograms, arthrograms, of gastro-intestinal and urinary tracts in a clinical setting.
*Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health errors. Performs all quality control checks as prescribed and contacts the appropriate staff in the event of a system or equipment malfunction. * Follows all departmental policies regarding Radiation safety. Maintains safety precautions with regards to radiation safety. Shields patients accordingly.
* Screens all patients for contrast contraindications prior to exam. Questions patient regarding history, allergies, and pregnancy, etc.
*Appropriately selects equipment, settings and adjusts the equipment to optimize the image for diagnostic purposes as described by UWMC protocols. *Exercises independent judgment and tailors the examination relative to the patient clinical presentation and pathophysiological state. *Understands and practices proper use of all equipment and operates equipment consistent with manufacturer’s instruction. * Practices proper room set-up and clean up for all diagnostic procedures. Washes hands before each patient contact and uses aseptic technique as necessary. • Able to troubleshoot minor problems with the radiology equipment. • Performs work accurately and quickly even during times of peak workload. • Evaluates radiographs for technical and positional quality. • Performs proper use of the CR and DR systems to include image acquisition, transferring, saving, and retrieval of PACS images. • Determines most suitable anatomical posture and positions.
EQUIPMENT: • Understands, is able to independently operate, and practices proper use of all equipment to include: • All DR exam rooms • C-Arms • Faxitron • All portables • DR specimen unit • CR plate readers • Fluoroscopy rooms (If applicable) • Able to troubleshoot minor problems with radiology equipment • Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor, shift lead, or Clinical Engineering • Practices proper aseptic techniques following use of all equipment • Chooses correct patient from work list or enters required patient information to maintain an accurate permanent record of test results
IT/COMPUTER SYSTEMS/IMAGE MANAGEMENT: • Schedules, begins, completes, and cancels exams in RIS as indicated • Knowledge of RIS and PACS to perform daily duties • Follows department guidelines for documenting dose in RIS and Dose Watch(If applicable) • Documents any contrast or medications used during imaging in RIS • Verifies all images sent to PACS • Reconciles any unspecified images in PACS and manages exceptions in RIS • Documents any QA issues, protocol changes, or delays in care into the appropriate notes section in RIS • Able to merge exams in PACS • Demonstrates knowledge in EPIC and ORCA • Demonstrates knowledge of white board (If applicable) • Ensure that all exams are billed properly • Knowledge of all charges for contrast, exams, and other billable items
IMAGING/PATIENT CARE: • Examines all orders for accuracy in determining if signs and symptoms match exam ordered and follows departmental protocols. Clarifies orders with ordering physician if necessary • Explains study to the patient, appropriately questions patient for exam to be performed, instructs, and assists patients in proper positioning for the examination • Selects equipment and settings to optimize the image for diagnostic purposes as described by UWMC protocol • Exercises independent judgment and is able to tailor examination relative to patients clinical presentation and pathophysiological state • Appropriately monitors and communicates with the patient during exam and is able to assess patient pain and notify proper personnel for intervention if necessary • Practices proper room set-up and clean-up for all procedures • Evaluates images for technical quality and accurate positioning • Independently performs and evaluate both clinical and research examinations • Completes all examinations assigned in an efficient and timely manner without reduction in exam quality • Performs work accurately and quickly even during peak workloads and maintains an acceptable volume of examinations as described by department policies • Able to triage emergent patients into daily schedule
SAFETY: • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health errors • Performs all quality control checks as prescribed and contacts the appropriate staff in the event of a system or equipment malfunction • Follows all departmental policies regarding radiation safety and shielding patients • Chooses and correctly labels all contrast and medications under the direction of the Radiologist • Screens all patients for contrast contraindications prior to exam. Appropriately questions patient regarding history, allergies, and pregnancy • Uses markers for all imaging • Follows department protocols for all imaging studies • Know basic CPR to assist in patient care • Initiates and participates in all Final Verification/Time Out with all staff members present for any invasive procedures
OTHER: • Orient, educates, and provides a positive learning environment for students, trainees, technologists, residents, and fellows • Completes annual educational requirements • Maintains required certifications • Helps others when necessary • Consistently performs good work flow management • Consistently communicate effectively with staff and patients • Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to independently use KRONOS timekeeping system and follows the Department‘s guidelines • Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS: Satisfactory completion of formal radiologic technology training in an AMA approved school and eligible for registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) with Registry completed before completion of probationary period OR equivalent education/experience. LEGAL REQUIREMENTS: Registered as an X-Ray Technician by the State of Washington and Certified by the State of Washington as a Radiologic Technologist, before completion of probationary period.
