POSITION OVERVIEW
The Research Nurse Provider position is part of the Integrative Health & Wellbeing Research Program at the Bakken Center for Spirituality & Healing. This position works on National Institutes of Health funded studies to recruit, clinically screen, and provide study treatments for individuals with back pain conditions.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
The position applies in-depth nursing knowledge of pain management for spine pain and other medical conditions. This individual requires expertise in nursing processes and standards to perform protocol-specific procedures and manage research subjects’ participation in in-person and remote clinical research settings.
Research Clinical Care (50%)
â— Implements study protocols by providing guideline and evidence based medical treatment for study participants according to protocols; includes scheduling patients, writing orders, managing medications, providing ongoing patient follow up and making adjustments to treatment as needed
â— Identifies and assesses defined adverse events and reports as per study protocol
Research Clinical Screening (30%)
â— Performs informed consent with potential study participants
â— Performs screening of participants for eligibility; includes conducting health histories and physical examinations
â— Participates in case review meetings with study investigators and research staff; includes presenting cases and rationales for participant inclusion, exclusion and/or additional follow up
Research Documentation (5%)
â— Collects and enters screening, treatment and follow up related data in web-based databases
â— Assists other research team members with the creation and maintenance of manuals of operations and other study materials
Recruitment & Engagement (5%)
â— Works with other research team members to implement study specific recruitment strategies to reach populations who experience health disparities and underrepresentation in clinical research on pain; includes but is not limited to giving presentations to community members, health care providers and health systems; participating in health fairs and other methods
Profession Development (5%)
â— Participates in research related training and ongoing quality assurance activities including protection of human subjects, Good Clinical Practices (GCP), Data Safety, COVID-19 mitigation, study protocols and other areas as determined by the investigators and funder
â— Remains current and participates in continuing education and training opportunities related to University policy and best practices
Other Research Related Duties (5%)
â— Performs other research related tasks as needed including but not limited to assisting with the following: data collection follow up; regulatory applications and reports
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
â— BS degree in Nursing with at least 6 years of experience, or advanced degree in Nursing with at least 4 years of experience.
â— Must be a current Registered Nurse. Also must be an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner licensed in the state of Minnesota with assigned Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Registration Number
â— Minimum 4 years of clinical experience managing patients with musculoskeletal pain, including low back pain conditions
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
â— Research experience working with human subjects in clinical trials
â— Experience performing remote clinical visits using videoconferencing (e.g. Zoom)
