The Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) in New York City is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position. Applications at the Assistant Professor, and in exceptional cases, at the Associate Professor and Full Professor level, will be considered. Applications are sought in the broad area of Orthopedic Research, including musculoskeletal biomechanics, tissue engineering, stem cell biology, developmental biology, and imaging. Candidates must have a Ph.D. or its professional equivalent with a focus on the musculoskeletal system or a related field by the starting date of the appointment. In-depth postdoctoral experience is preferred, but not required. Applicants for this position at the Assistant Professor and Associate Professors without tenure must demonstrate the potential to do pioneering research. Applicants for this position at the tenured level (Associate or Full Professor) must have a demonstrated record of outstanding research accomplishments and established leadership in the field.
The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the advancement of Orthopedic Research and the Department by developing an original externally funded research program and to contribute to the educational mission of the Department. Columbia fosters multidisciplinary research and encourages collaborations across departments and schools, e.g., with the Biomedical Engineering Department in the Columbia University Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science. The ideal candidate is expected to develop collaborations with existing Columbia University faculty with strengths in Orthopedic Surgery, bio-imaging, cellular engineering, and biomechanics. The Department is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
