The R&D Prototype Technician is responsible for the development and analysis of prototypes for medical devices. You will also support new product development projects and concept evaluation; work in a fast paced and highly service oriented environment requiring strong communication and time management skills.
What you will do
Work under limited supervision and capable of working independently.
Supports R&D Centers of Excellence by developing and constructing working prototypes of all new Stryker products, concepts, and test fixtures using tools, dies, various machinery, and measuring instruments.
Create and optimize CNC tool paths.
Fabricate/machine components on an independent basis.
Create prototypes and fixtures (test/assembly) by reading sketches and blueprints developed by Engineers and Designers.
Provide periodic updates and communication to direct project members and stakeholders.
Attend design reviews, provide inputs and offer improvements for component and system level designs based on cost savings, manufacturability, material constraints, form, fit, and function
Maintain calibration of lab instrumentation.
Performs maintenance on all equipment in the prototype laboratory.
Develop and manage inclusive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to provide services/skills.
Define workflows and methods to improve efficiency and/or productivity of request.
Comply and implement good housekeeping, ergonomic practices and procedures in accordance with Stryker 5S and Kanban.
May involve prolonged periods of stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, sitting, standing, and/or crawling as appropriate.
May be required to move materials up to 50 pounds, reach, push, or pull in order to accomplish job accountabilities.
Coordination of eye, hand, and/or foot movement with an ability to grasp by hand and meet cognitive demands to include visual and auditory discrimination/memory, reading ability, and memory retention ability.
What you need
High School Diploma or Equivalency
5+ years prior work experience as a machinist, CNC programmer, welder, welding programmer and/or related discipline with above average ratings.
Proficient to program, set-up and operate CNC machines (mill & lathe).
Proficient in CNC programming/CAM (SurfCam, MasterCam, etc).
Working experience in welding (MIG & TIG).
Must have a mechanical aptitude, be a problem solver and able to work in a team environment.
Associate's Degree or Technical Certificate with 5+ years of experience preferred
Must have the ability to prioritize and manage multiple project requests.
Ability to understand and apply information represented on blueprints.
Advanced math and technical writing skills
Working knowledge in metrology, metallurgy, pneumatics, hydraulics, molding, casting, modeling, tube bending and rapid prototyping techniques.
Proficient to set-up and operate manual lathes, mills, drill presses, shears, presses and saws.
Must be self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
Computer literacy with knowledge of Windows applications to include but not limited to MS Word, Excel and Power Point is a plus.
Ability to use a logical step by step approach/procedure to meet job requirements.
Ability to effectively review, understand, and convey technical information.
Requires use of safety glasses in designated areas.
Closed-toe/heel shoes must be worn on the production floor and R&D labs; safety shoes are recommended
