The Staff Research Associate II (SRA II) position is a full-time laboratory research position to assist two investigators in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at Zuckerberg San Francisco General (ZSFG)/UCSF. The individual's effort will be distributed evenly across the labs, with overlapping job descriptions and expectations.
Collectively, our research focuses on understanding how hormonal signaling affects tissue development and function. One laboratory focuses on genetic diseases of the musculoskeletal system (bone, muscle, cartilage) and how these genetic changes affect skeletal formation. The other laboratory focuses on how dysfunctional adipose tissue simultaneously promotes metabolic dysfunction and Type 2 diabetes, with a specific focus on adipose tissue depot-specific adipokines, inflammatory profiles, fibrosis and beiging capacity. We use human primary and induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) models and mouse models to study how genetic changes affect skeletal formation and adipogenesis.
The individual hired will have a variety of responsibilities related to the above-stated research goals, including deriving and maintaining human stem cell cultures, maintaining mouse colonies, handling and genotyping mice, and assisting with experiments. Techniques employed will include the analysis of mouse and human cellular models, in vitro and in vivo tissue analysis, live-cell imaging, cell culture, protein analysis, cloning, PCR, and standard molecular biology techniques. In addition, the individual will assist in establishing and maintaining the overall function of the laboratory (including stocking supplies, ordering, and arranging for equipment maintenance).
The candidate is expected to be open to learning new methods and must have excellent communication skills, as this position requires team-work in a laboratory environment.
