The Systems R&D team at Stryker Communications embodies this mission by diving deep with end-users, and collaborating cross-functionally, to conceive and realize category-leading Infrastructure Solutions (Booms, Lights, Tables, Intelligence) that balance user needs, business objectives and technology innovation. What You Will Do During concept phases:
Collaborate with Marketing/ Clinical Development/ R&D resources to conduct research and explore the clinical needs.
Help Technical Architects to explore the feasibility of new technologies and architectures.
Work with other R&D resources to generate compelling product design concepts that might consist of electro-mechanical, optical, embedded control and/ or system processing and software components. During development and execution phases:
Serve as the R&D product owner, ensuring that the intent of the design concept is maintained from development through execution.
Partner with the Project Manager and Technical Architects to document key development decisions and drive consensus when difficult trade-offs need to be made.
Foster conversation and collaboration across the cross-functional development team during execution.
Understand the priorities of the business and help drive Systems R&D efforts on large projects with multiple team members.
Help to develop talent by training and mentoring team members and championing best practices.
Effectively communicate and rationalize decisions/ issues to the cross-functional team and leadership stakeholders.
A natural ability to communicate, build relationships (based on trust) and to influence peers (strong levels of command and courage)
Technical- User-Centered Design / UX
Collaborate with Marketing in VoC and VoS activities and lead user needs capture and screening
Lead concept development. Collaborate with Marketing, Design Researchers, Engineers, UX and Industrial designers in concept generation. Leverage user-centered design (UCD) and HFE methodologies
Lead concept feasibility assessment and business risk reduction
Proactively solve design problems at a system and product level; may be called upon to lead a cross-functional team to solve challenging technical and/ or usability problems.
Technical - Systems Engineering
Requirements Management. Translate / decompose user needs into product-level and platform-level requirements functional requirements.
Oversee documentation of system and design inputs.
Drive cross-functional alignment on functional specifications (Technical Architects, Quality Engineer, Test Engineers etc.)
Create design and architecture documents to describe design intent.
Support Risk Management team in identification of potential failures, mitigations, safety requirements, and design for safety.
General Marketing knowledge and in-depth knowledge of user needs, the market, and rival offerings
Build a proficiency in Endoscopy products, intended use and clinical workflows
Understand project financial models (COGS / ASP / margin / burden / NRE and amortization costs etc.)
Be the voice of the customer and partner with our customers, which include both internal and external key opinion leaders to develop technical strategies that meet clinical needs; Strategize and execute customer facing activities like voice of customer and customer centric design across the business.
Operate in a Regulated Environment and expected to be an expert in standards and regulations that affect the business such as Design Control. You will also be an expert in full development lifecycle from concept to product release.
Agile product development methodologies
Human Factors Engineering (HFE), User-Centered Design (UCD) and UX methodologies.
Knowledge of ISO 13485 and ISO 14971
Provide accurate documentation and communicate clearly in writing.
Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering field (Biomedical, Software, Electrical, or Mechanical preferred) or equivalent experience in the product development space.
6+ years of experience in any of the following areas: software, electrical, or mechanical engineering in the medical device industry, or systems engineering/ product development in a regulated industry.
Experience as a design and development lead taking 2 or more products through the complete product development lifecycle.
