Top administrative officer of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.Â Oversees, plans, guides, and evaluates the administrative activities of the department, including responsibility for the business operations of the departments ambulatory service sites and Department financial oversight.Â Additionally, works with the Department Chair and SLUCare leadership to develop and implement strategic plans.Â Directs and empowers administrative staff to develop cost effective, quality, patient care services and work processes.Â Supervises departments administrative and clinical staff.Â Assists and reports to the Department Chair.
Responsible for all departmental fiscal activities, including the overall development and preparation of the departmental SLUCare Clinical, Academic and Research budgets. This includes ongoing monitoring of budget to actuals, preparation of the revised quarterly forecasts, and performing Department monthly financial close.Â Responsible for review and approval of Department expenditures and submission/performance of return on investment analysis on annual capital purchase plan.Â Also, responsible to identify opportunities to reduce costs and increase revenues (35%)
Drives data gathering and review of clinical operations information and provides recommendations to the Department Chair and Division Chiefs to support department goals. This includes the monitoring and oversight of faculty assignments and reallocating resources based on patient care as well as the funds flow/cost allocations across the missions and the Department strategic goals (15%)
Responsible for development and implementation of all new business agreements and negotiation of contractual agreements with outside agencies for providing specialized professional services. This includes ongoing relationship management to ensure compliance items and contractual obligations are met.Â Monitors and provides feedback from implementation through full lifecycle of the contract to ensure strong relationships. (15%)
Leads, directs, and models the implementation and facilitation of various management strategies/tactics and work processes, interventions, measurements, and tools, which help the department to meet and exceed customer (internal and external) expectations and requirements. This includes the review of department and clinic activities to identify opportunities to improve healthcare delivery and make recommendations for changes in, or enhancements in the utilization of facilities, services and staff. (15%)
Responsible for the direction and assistance of departmental administrative and clinical staff through supervision of management staff.Â This includes oversight to staff performance reviews, salary reviews, promotions and performance management activities. (10%)
Responsible for maintaining strong relationships and the coordination of operations with SLUCare Service Departments and Administration, University Hospital Administration, Finance, Information Services, Human Resources, Payroll, Purchasing, the Physical Plant, and external contractors and vendors.Â Fosters a positive work environment to maintain high morale through support to department faculty, residents and staff as needed (10%)

Masters in health administration (MHA), Masters in Business Administration (MBA) or CPA; supplemented with six (6) years experience of progressively responsible, related management experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.Â An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
