The Palliative Medicine Center, part of the Section on Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine at Wake Forest, School of Medicine is recruiting a Clinician Researcher. Candidates are being considered for the Assistant or Associate Professor rank and evidence of research productivity including peer reviewed manuscripts and/or extramural funding is desirable. Candidates must possess an MD degree (or equivalent degree), be board certified/eligible in Hospice and Palliative Medicine (by hire date) and any primary specialty. For more junior faculty, career development funding including support for training in research conduct is available.
Palliative Care at Wake Forest is developing the infrastructure to compete for a Center for Palliative Care Research over the next 3 years. A major advantage to the center’s co-location in Wake Forest Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology is the Section of Gerontology, is a wealth of opportunity for research collaboration. Together, the Geriatric Medicine Section, the NIA funded Claude Pepper Older Americans Independence Center, the NIA funded Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, the Memory Counseling Program and Palliative Medicine have annual extramural funding well over $50 million, providing a rich environment for mentorship and research growth, Specific opportunity exists in the areas of palliative care for frail elders and persons with Alzheimer’s disease. Palliative Medicine has 8 faculty, dedicated research project management and access to multiple longitudinal data sets pertaining to frailty and dementia presenting numerous research opportunities.
The faculty member will also participate clinically as an attending physician on the interdisciplinary palliative care service at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The total clinical effort and service location (e.g., inpatient or outpatient) are negotiable and the position included guaranteed protected time for research career development.
