Texas Scottish Rite Hospital (TSRH) is seeking an exceptional and visionary leader for the position of Scientific Director of Research. TSRH is dedicated to promoting Clinical, Basic, and Applied Research to advance the care of children with orthopedic conditions, related neurological disorders, and specific learning differences.

Our research center is approximately 30,000 square feet and integrates the services and knowledge of investigators from various educational backgrounds, such as orthopedic surgery, biomechanical engineering, genetics, statistics, histology, molecular biology and motion analysis. Our state-of-the-art laboratories allow our researchers and medical staff to better understand and define the causes of these complex orthopedic conditions to bring better treatment plans to our patients.

The Scientific Director provides overall direction and scientific leadership for the entire intramural research program. Position reports to the Chief of Staff and is a key member of the TSRH leadership team.

Key responsibilities include:

• Developing, directing, and coordinating all research areas
• Developing and implementing strategic initiatives
• Overseeing program operations including program planning and evaluation
• Recommending and designing new programs to meet needs with respect to overall TSRH mission
• Identifying new funding opportunities and implementing strategies to improve overall extramural support
• Contributing to the development planning, authoring and review of manuscripts and other scientific data disclosures
• Contributing to departmental resource planning, budgeting and timeline setting to meet organizational needs
• Cultivating existing relationships with research partners, and developing new partnerships and strategic alignments
• Planning and facilitating meetings and committees to address research needs
• Managing the performance of research personnel, including role expectations and performance reviews
• Directing, motivating and training staff as necessary

The position is to be filled by a well-established clinician scientist with her/his own independent program focused on areas consistent with TSRH mission. Therefore, as appropriate, resources will be made available to the successful candidate to conduct an independent research program that supports the overall mission of TSRH.
