Program Purpose Statement: PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.Pharmacists completing this residency will be competent and confident pharmacy practitioners of direct patient care in various environments. They will be able to provide drug information to any health care team, possess independent leadership skills, teaching skills and communicate well in personal and group settings. They will demonstrate professional and personal maturity by following a philosophy of professional practice, monitoring their own performance, exhibiting a commitment to the profession, and exercising leadership in improving the safety of the medication use system.Facility details: Truman Medical Center is a not-for-profit two acute-care hospital health system in Kansas City. The TMC Health System includes TMC Hospital Hill, TMC Lakewood, TMC Behavioral Health, the Jackson County Health Department and a number of primary care practices throughout Eastern Jackson County. TMC is the primary teaching hospital for the University of Missouri-Kansas City Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Dentistry and specializes in chronic disease management, orthopaedics, family medicine, women’s health, and trauma servicesProgram details: The twelve-month residency is designed to develop clinicians that practice independently and excel in clinical services, teaching and potentially research. The program provides rotations in a variety of settings. Required rotations include adult internal medicine I and II, emergency medicine, critical care, trauma surgery, infectious disease, cardiology, management, and drug information. Elective rotations include pediatric/neonatal care, psychiatric pharmacy, orthopedic surgery, transitions of care, ambulatory care, pain management and metabolic support or repeating a required rotation.Benefits: Insurance (medical, dental), sick leave, vacation, travel allowance.

Requirements: Letter of interest, 3 letters of reference using the standard PhORCAS form. We ask that the reference writers complete the four questions that are optional in PhORCAS and include the same quantity and quality of information that they would normally include in a traditional letter of recommendation in their responses to these questions, college transcripts, Curriculum Vitae and written case presentation (PowerPoint presentation saved as 6 slides per page is the preferred format for the case presentation, and it will need to be uploaded as a PDF file for PhORCAS). Applications will be accepted through the PhORCAS® system starting in November. |
