Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, fills all physician/dietitian orders/prescriptions which include all oral, topical, and injectable medications as well as
nutrition. This is accomplished by using an automated medication distribution system, an automated inventory system, and a manual system. Demonstrates proficiency
in more than one work area and is certified, through completion of internal department requirements, to work in an assigned area, when necessary.
Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of the Medical Center in its efforts to provide quality pharmaceutical care and patient satisfaction.
Reports to the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor, the Operations Director, and ultimately to the Director of Pharmacy.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively and follow instructions.
Demonstrates the ability to perform mathematical calculations and to use computers in the work area necessary for performing the functions of the job.
Demonstrates a working knowledge of medical terminology and pharmaceutical and/or chemical nomenclature.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED required.
Graduate of a Pharmacy Technician Program or other Medical training preferred
Experience working as a pharmacy technician preferred
1. Fulfills the new employee orientation and achieves internal department certification to work in an assigned area.
2. Must complete all assigned ASHP pharmacy technician modules annually
3. Must register and pass national technician certification exam within first year of employment, with, if necessary, consideration provided for up to two additional attempts
due to a previous failure*.
If additional attempts to pass are necessary, registration and additional attempt to pass must happen within 6 months of the previous attempt.
Failure to obtain certification after three attempts would result in a termination.
*Flex employees do not need to be certified within one year of their hire date, however, they must fulfill all other internal departmental requirements (i.e. tests, competencies,
etc.) satisfactorily as a requirement to maintain their employment.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must have the ability to accommodate a flexible schedule of rotating shifts and the ability to stand or walk for an entire 8 or 10 hour shift. Must be able to work overtime,
when needed, according to the department’s overtime practices.
