The Musculoskeletal Navigator will provide overall leadership for managing the multiple facets of the ICCCR, which is comprised of different cores at Indiana University School of Medicine, Indiana University School of Rehabilitation Sciences, and Purdue University. The role of the Navigator is to assist the leadership of the ICCCR in project management, help navigate the investigators of the Indiana Center for Musculoskeletal Health (ICMH) utilizes the core resources for clinical research, and interact with the Thematic teams of the ICMH. The Navigator will develop policies governing all aspects of the program, be responsible for the implementation of this program consistent with strategy, commitments, and goals of the funded P30 NIH grant, and serve as a key decision-maker on on-going policies and strategy. Serve as a liaison to develop critical relationships with key external stakeholders. Act as a resource to basic science and clinical research teams to successfully, and optimally, advance research activity in musculoskeletal health.
The incumbent will be responsible for evaluating the program effectiveness and any difficulties and acting upon them immediately. This person will only report to the director and Core leaders who will provide oversight but the manager will be responsible for making majority of decisions needed. This person will be a participant on the ICCCR Administrative team that is responsible for strategy development and implementation for a broad range of initiatives. Most of the situations faced by this person will be novel, without clearly defined policies and procedures. This person will be responsible for making the majority of decisions in the day-to day conduct of all initiatives that fall within the scope of the position. This person will need to operate independently and be responsible for managing key relationships with investigators, departments, schools, and stakeholders. It is important that this person understand both scientific and academic environments in order to bridge the gaps between the two. Problem solving requires dealing with stakeholders at various levels of the organization as well as external affiliates. Provide direction to faculty investigators and other navigators in the ICCCR. Interact with the CTSI Navigators. This position will be a key resource across the system for resolving complex issues.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
* Assist clinical researchers as well as Thematic Teams to map research activities and appropriate use of resources within the ICCCR and within the CTSI.
* Lead the integration of the personnel involved in the ICCCR through regular communications. Track metrics of success. Develop comprehensive project management plans to include project scope, time, cost, quality, resource planning (including personnel), communication, risk assessment, integration, cost/benefit analysis and procurement.
* Direct and develop policies to operationalize the Clinical Research Cores of the ICCCR. Identify gaps in available resources and develop strategies to resolve deficiencies.
* Provide project management for special projects related to the ICCCR initiatives and other duties as assigned.
* Manage communications and publicity of the ICCCR to all levels of stakeholders. Serve as networking liaison between the ICCCR and the Core Oversight Committee and Leadership/Administration/Committees of the ICMH and external partners. Serve as advocate of resources to other stakeholders.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and three years of experience in a biomedical or clinical research setting.
Excellent communication skills. Exceptional assessment, time, task, and organizational management skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team, while also being an independent thinker. Experience in supervising support staff and processes. Experience and proficiency in report writing as well as literature review. Experience with identifying and trouble-shooting operating processes and procedures. Experience in creating and implementing solutions proactively as well as reactively. Extremely detail oriented. Ability to protect confidential information. Expertise in Microsoft Office software, particularly Excel. Ability to represent Institution in a professional and collegial manner.
