JOB SUMMARY: Work collaboratively with Cancer Institute leadership and staff to complete meaningful project work that advances strategic objectives of the organization and aligns with student interests.
This experience develops skills in organization, critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and leadership. Students can expect to be challenged in areas of quality improvement, data analytics, change management and the administration of a defined scope of financial and human resources. A student member of the Cancer Institute will be exposed to varying administrative and operational levels of the Geisinger. A rounded experience in health services administration can be expected to enhance educational fundamentals.
Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of the system in its efforts to provide quality patient care and patient satisfaction.
Works under the supervision of the Administrative Director, Center for Oncology Research and Innovation.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: Successful applicants should project maturity, professionalism, initiative, adaptability, and the ability to work within a team.
Demonstrates basic computer skills.
Demonstrates knowledge of basic quality improvement methodology and data collection.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Student enrolled in an undergraduate degree program majoring in a health services program or related program field (i.e. management, public health, social sciences, epidemiology, biology, etc) required.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is typically performed in an office or clinical environment.

GEISINGER MEDICAL CENTER: (GMC) Located Danville, Pa., the largest tertiary/quaternary care teaching hospital in the region, is licensed for 475 beds, including 89 pediatric beds in the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital. GMC, a Magnet Hospital, maintains the region’s only Level 1 Regional Resource Trauma Center with additional qualifications in pediatrics.
