About the Department of Kinesiology and Health The Department of Kinesiology and Health (https://kines.rutgers.edu/) is one of 34 departments in the School of Arts and Sciences (https://newbrunswick.rutgers.edu/academics/school-arts-and-sciences). It is committed to educating and training the next generation of scholars to address the major public health issues related to physical activity and health, advancing the scientific understanding of human health, and providing leadership to the global sports industry. The department has11 tenure-track faculty, 10 full-time lecturers, 1 full-time undergraduate advisor, approximately 1300 undergraduate majors and 10 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Undergraduate students specialize in one of two academic areas: Exercise Science or Sport Management. The Department offers graduate degrees in Kinesiology and Applied Physiology and in Global Sports Business. Faculty are established and emerging leaders in their research areas, which span weight regulation, metabolic diseases, cardiovascular physiology, alcohol and drug use, neurocognition, psychophysiology, sleep physiology, exercise psychology, and public health, with a focus on modifiable behaviors and lifestyle factors that affect physical and mental health and wellness. Current research funding comes from the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense, American Diabetes Association, American Kidney Foundation, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Specialized kinesiology and health facilities Rutgers University – New Brunswick is the home of the New Jersey Institute for Food, Nutrition, and Health (IFNH, https://ifnh.rutgers.edu/), which houses the state-of-the art Center for Health and Human Performance (CHHP), the Microbiome and Nutrition Center, and the Lipid Research Center, among others. The IFNH embraces an interdisciplinary scientific model that seeks solutions to health problems through study of both social and biological determinants, and highlights the University’s commitment to transformational initiatives across the many disciplines impacting food, nutrition and health. Position Announcement The Department of Kinesiology and Health at Rutgers University – New Brunswick invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level, to begin fall 2020. We are seeking candidates with research interests in Biomechanics and Human Movement that expand or complement other existing areas of expertise within the department. This is one of two new tenure-track faculty positions in the areas of Biomechanics and Exercise Physiology, and one new non-tenure track faculty position in Sports Management, demonstrating the University’s commitment to building excellence in Kinesiology and Health. Competitive candidates will be broadly trained in areas such as the mechanical principles underlying movement, rehabilitation, musculoskeletal function, and movement disorders. This is a full-time, tenure track, 9-month appointment with a competitive start-up package and salary range commensurate with qualifications and experience. The faculty appointment will be in the Department of Kinesiology and Health in the School of Arts and Sciences. Our Department is a unit of the Division of Life Sciences (https://lifesci.rutgers.edu/) that also includes the Departments of Cell Biology and Neuroscience, Genetics, and Molecular Biology and Biochemistry. The Division supports university wide research centers such as the W.M. Keck Center for Collaborative Neuroscience and the Center for Exercise and Aging, and collaborates with Centers and Institutes such as the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine, The Waksman Institute, and the Brain Health Institute, as well as the basic and clinical sciences departments of the medical school.
