JOB TITLE: Mental Health Worker LOCATION: Geisinger Community Medical Center DEPARTMENT: Behavioral Health WORK SCHEDULE: Days/Evenings, 7am - 7pm, Requires every other weekend and holiday WORK TYPE: Full Time
JOB SUMMARY: Perform, under the responsibility and supervision of the physician, diagnostic and therapeutic tasks to establish a diagnosis and to plan therapy. Assist in gathering the data necessary in implementing the therapeutic plan of the physician.
Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of Geisinger Health System in its efforts to provide quality service and patient satisfaction.
Works under the general supervision of the department supervisor or operational leader.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: BEHAVIORAL HEALTH-Knowledge of psychological counseling, knowledge of individual and group behavior and the relationship between social, economic, psychological factors.
HEALTHCARE KNOWLEDGE-Knowledge of the operating principles, major issues, governmental regulations, and code of ethics for the healthcare industry; ability to apply this understanding appropriately to healthcare related situations.
GENERAL COMPUTER COMPETENCIES- Knowledge of and ability to use personal computers or workstations.
TEAM PLAYER- Must be able to work and communicate effectively in a team environment.
INDEPENDENT WORK- Demonstrates ability to work independently or with limited supervision.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in psychology or related field or actively pursuing preferred.
Experience and training may be considered in lieu of degree.
Participation in training related to psychopathology and therapeutic interventions is required.
Current BLS healthcare provider.
Non-violent Crisis Intervention required within 1 year of date of hire.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work performed in clinical environment-Standard Precautions
Work involves walking/standing for extended periods of time
May be required to work multiple shifts and weekends

GEISINGER-COMMUNITY MEDICAL CENTER (G-CMC), Scranton, Pa., is an acute care hospital licensed for 297 beds and houses the only Level II Trauma Center in Lackawanna County and Scranton’s only neurosurgery program and adult in-patient behavioral health unit.
