Non-Tenure Stream Faculty Position -- Department of Physical Therapy
1. Brief statement of duties and responsibilities:
The Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Pittsburgh, which is ranked number 1 in the US News and World Report, is currently recruiting a faculty member who is committed to excellence in teaching and research for a full-time 12-month non-tenure stream position. The Department is housed in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS), one of the six Schools of Health Sciences. We offer entry level Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), postprofessional Master of Science and PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences degrees as well as a dual DPT and PhD in bioengineering (DPT-PhD) degree, We are also actively planning a hybrid entry level DPT program.
For this position, we are seeking an individual with strong clinical background in musculoskeletal physical therapy, particularly in orthopaedic and sports related injuries of the knee and lower extremity. The applicant will participate in teaching in the Doctor of Physical Therapy and post-professional Master of Science programs, focusing primarily kinesiology and the lower extremity units of the musculoskeletal sequence. The candidate will be involved in ongoing curriculum implementation and evaluation. The candidate is also expected to take full advantage of research opportunities provided by the Department's strong and long-standing partnership with Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, which is a world-class academic medical center in Pittsburgh. In collaboration with faculty from the Departments of Physical Therapy and Orthopaedic Surgery, the candidate is expected to contribute to and lead an active research agenda related to surgical and nonsurgical treatment and rehabilitation of orthopaedic sports medicine injuries affecting the knee and lower extremity. The individual is expected to serve as a key member of the research team (co-investigator, co-principal investigator, principal investigator) for competitive funding applications to support orthopaedic sports medicine research. In addition to effective teaching and productive scholarship, the candidate will provide service to the University, profession and community. 2. Minimum objective qualifications; other desirable qualifications:
Requirements for the position include:
Earned PhD degree in a rehabilitation-related discipline;
Licensed as physical therapist or eligible for licensure in Pennsylvania; and Relevant experience in teaching and clinical research.
A minimum of 3 years of clinical and teaching experience is preferred. OCS certification is desired. Experience working on and leading clinical research related to surgical and nonsurgical treatment and rehabilitation of orthopaedic sports medicine injuries affecting the knee and lower extremity is also desired. Preference will be given to candidates with a research agenda synergistic with current faculty interests and potential for securing extramural funding.
