To provide nursing assistants with the necessary support, tools and skills they need to do their jobs, Geisinger provides a two-week paid Nursing Assistant training program. Here you will learn the essential skills needed to become a valuable and contributory member of our healthcare team. As a participant in the Geisinger Nursing Assistant training program, your coursework will focus on a wide variety of topics, including:

Whether you have experience as a Nursing Assistant or this is your first time exploring this role, this new innovative program is an indicator of Geisinger’s commitment to providing professional development services for Nursing Assistants in the Geisinger system.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
PATIENT RIGHTS-Knowledge of principles and practices associated with the rights and responsibilities of patients and caregivers.
PATIENT SAFETY-Knowledge of the risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment, and the ability to take steps to reduce these risks.
HEALTH INFORMATION DOCUMENTATION-Knowledge of the relevance of health information and appropriate documentation methods; ability to record medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, tests, and medical results in written or electronic form.
COMPUTER SKILLS-Demonstrates basic navigation in a windows environment, and passwords and security. Accesses the internet, uses basic browser functionality, and understands policy on Internet usage. Demonstrates the ability to compose, send and read emails, understands email functionality and conventions related to replying.
COMMUNICATION-Demonstrates oral, written, and electronic communication skills.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
HS Diploma or GED required

GEISINGER MEDICAL CENTER: (GMC), located Danville, Pa., the largest tertiary/quaternary care teaching hospital in the region, is licensed for 475 beds, including 89 pediatric beds in the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital.
