The Michigan Medicine Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is seeking a Research Lab Tech Intermediate to join our team in the Schipani laboratory. The faculty and staff of our department are dedicated to providing outstanding, state-of-the-art, evidence-based care for musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. The department’s service-excellence philosophy is founded on the goals of exceeding expectations and having every interaction leave a lasting, positive impression.
He/She will maintain a mouse colony, including initiating the import/exportation of mice and mouse husbandry breeding. This person will also perform routine histology procedures for the analysis of murine tissues: tissue fixation and dissection, process, embed, and section specimens. In addition, he/she will perform molecular biology procedures: prepare buffers and solutions, PCR genotyping, bacterial transformation and plasmid DNA preparation. Additional duties involve purchasing supplies, being involved in data analysis and storage, and be responsible for training new lab members in these techniques.
Bachelors degree in Biology or related field.
1-3 years of experience required.
Excellent communication skills including proficient computer skills and database management.
Bookkeeping skills, as well as computer skills in power point, excel and word are highly desirable.
