The Brown Department of Orthopaedics is soliciting applications to fill a faculty position in musculoskeletal research, with appointment at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. The successful candidate will join an established, productive, and well-funded research group located on the campus of Rhode Island Hospital, which is the primary teaching affiliate of the Alpert Medical School of Brown University. This is a non-targeted recruitment. We are interested in outstanding candidates who can enhance or expand the scope of our current research program, which includes laboratories specializing in bioengineering, molecular biology, nanomedicine, skeletal stem cell biology and cell signaling, cancer biology, cartilage, osteoarthritis, spine, and implant infection and diagnostics.
Research faculty in the Department are expected to establish and maintain nationally recognized independent research programs, as evidenced by consistent NIH or similar funding, and publication in high-impact journals. They are also expected to contribute to the educational mission of the department by mentoring residents, graduate students, medical students, and undergraduate students. Faculty are encouraged to collaborate with clinicians and scientists in the department, as well as with investigators in allied departments at Brown University and the Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

The Orthopaedic Research Laboratories occupy 17,500 ft2 of state-of-the-art laboratory space, with access to shared instrumentation and core facilities (bioengineering, imaging and molecular biology, proteomics)
Joint appointments are available in related departments at Brown University, including the School of Engineering, Division of Biology and Medicine, and the School of Public Health
Investigators in the department have established collaborations with investigators in Bioengineering; Molecular and Cell Biology; Molecular, Pharmacology, Physiology, & Biotechnology; Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Hematology and Oncology; Radiology; Emergency Medicine.
The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in cell and/or molecular biology, bioengineering, or similarly applicable discipline (i.e. PhD, MD, DVM) and, ideally, will have completed a post-doctoral fellowship in musculoskeletal research. Preference will be given to applicants who have established an NIH or similarly-funded research program, though applicants who demonstrate the likelihood of funding will also be considered. Successful candidates will receive a primary appointment in the Department of Orthopaedics, a competitive start-up package, and space in the Orthopaedic Research Laboratories. Secondary appointments are available in related basic science departments at Brown University.
