As a member of the anatomic pathology group, the candidate's activities are expected to center on excellence in autopsy and surgical biopsy services, teaching and scholarly activity.
The successful candidate will improve existing diagnostic capabilities and develop specialized diagnostic pathology expertise in an organ system, species, or disease category and related molecular diagnostic testing.
Through their service contributions, this candidate will have a sizable impact on our successful anatomic pathology residency program. Teaching commitments will include core DVM pathology courses (general pathology, systems pathology, infection and immunity), anatomic pathology senior clinical rotation, selectives, and electives and graduate training in the CBS Pathology concentration.
Pathology expertise and research are ideally expected to complement existing areas of research within the department and college and be collaborative in nature. Current areas of departmental research include the pathology of infectious diseases, infectious diseases of food animals, viral and respiratory diseases of poultry, musculoskeletal diseases of poultry, phenotypic and genotypic characterization of zoonotic pathogens as related to antimicrobial resistance and infectious disease including Clostridium difficile, and toxicology and pharmacokinetic studies.
Other areas of interest include development of diagnostic tests for use in the veterinary diagnostic laboratory.
This position will also provide diagnostic anatomic pathology support service including:
Consulting with clinicians related to any and all aspects of anatomic pathology, training our anatomic pathology residents and visiting House Officers fulfilling specialty requirements in pathology. This includes weekend hours.
Engaging with clinical services representatives within the Veterinary Health Complex (VHC). The VHC is comprised of the NC State Veterinary Hospital, the Veterinary Health and Wellness Center and the Equine and Farm Animal Veterinary Center. The successful incumbent will work to improve/meet VHC needs for test development/selection, equipment, training, laboratory hours and communications.
Increase scholarly research activity by collaborations with clinical and basic sciences faculty in the Teaching Hospital and across departments.
Mentoring of House Officers to complete program requirements and facilitate resident research projects and publications.
Requires doctor’s degree, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience.
Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.
Strong communication, presentation, and writing skills are required.
Aptitude for teaching and mentoring veterinary students and residents.
In addition to the required DVM or equivalent degree, a relevant Ph.D. or Masters is highly desirable.

Eligibility for veterinary licensure (or faculty certification) in North Carolina.
