The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, in collaboration with the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a full-time, 12-month non-tenure stream faculty position at the rank of Research Assistant Professor. The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, housed in the School of Medicine, is ranked number 10 in the US News and World Reports and the Department of Physical Therapy, housed in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences is ranked number 1 in the US News and World Reports. Requirements include an earned PhD degree and experience in clinical and/or health services research. For this position, we ar:e seeking individuals with an interest in clinical and/or health services research with an emphasis on research that demonstrates efficiency, effectiveness, value and best practices for surgical and non-turgical treatment and rehabilitation for a variety of orthopaedic conditions including sports and degenerative knee conditions, spine, joint arthroplasty, shoulder, hip, hand/upper extremity, foot/ankle and/or musculoskeletal oncology. The applicant should also have an interest in quality improvement methods and clinical performance assessment and reporting for surgical and non-surgical treatment, including rehabilitation of orthopaedic conditions. The applicant is expected to support the overall research effort in the Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery and Physical Therapy by carrying out funded and non-funded clinical and/or health services research that is relevant to surgical and non-surgical treatment and rehabilitation for a variety of orthopaedic conditions. Candidates must be willing to collaborate with senior research and clinical faculty at the co-investigator level and to establish a career path that will lead to independence as a funded investigator. The applicant must be willing to teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in medicine and rehabilitation sciences as well as residents and fellows. The applicant will also provide service to the Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery and Physical Therapy, the Schools of Medicine and Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, the University and the professional community. We are looking for candidates who can take full advantage of our established academic Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery and Physical Therapy that are embedded in the University of Pittsburgh's Schools of Health Sciences with close partnerships to a world-class academic medical center, the UPMC, including the UPMC Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Centers for Rehabilitation Services and the UPMC Health Plan. Excellent opportunities exist for: + Participating in patient-centered clinical and/or health services research that demonstrates the efficiency, effectiveness, value and best practices for dissemination and implementation for surgical and non-surgical treatment and rehabilitation for a variety of orthopaedic conditions. + Collaborative research with nationally and internationally known clinicians who are leaders in the treatment and rehabilitation of sports or degenerative knee conditions, spine, joint arthroplasty, shoulder, hip, hand/upper extremity, foot/ankle and/or musculoskeletal oncology. + Developing and implementing mechanisms to optimize collection of patient-centered outcome measures at the point of care across the UPMC Orthopaedic Service Line and the Centers for Rehabilitation Services. + Developing and implementing strategies to analyze and interpret patient-centered outcomes to enhance shared decision making, quality improvement and value-based care initiatives and pragmatic clinical research. + Teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in medicine and rehabilitation sciences as well as residents and fellows.
