Duties/Responsibilities: This position will manage broad aspects of data collection and analysis including interfacing with other academic research institutions for purposes of multi-center prospective studies; conduct various biomechanical and radiographic analyses; organize and participate in the development of scientific manuscripts; and perform miscellaneous support of other ongoing projects for Dr. Peter A. Cole and the orthopaedic surgery staff at Regions Hospital.

This position is designed for a medical school student in good academic standing, with an interest in pursuing an orthopaedic specialty or a career in academic medicine and clinical research with a partiular interest in orthopaedic trauma. This position will participate in a gap year program facilitated by their training institution (MD or DO), and applicants must meet eligibility criteria for their institution's program.
Some experience with orthopaedic and fracture care concepts is preferred along with the ability to learn to read radiographic images to identify fracture patterns. Experience with anatomical and/or surgical dissection techniques, with a strong understanding of anatomy, in particular musculoskeletal anatomy is preferred. In addition, the preferred candidate would have skills and experiences in scientific writing, the ability to support the development and execution of clinical and/or biomechanical study protocols, including an understanding of statistical analysis and publication of scientific research results.
