El Paso, Texas
Full Time - Experienced
The Paul L. Foster School of Medicine (PLFSOM) at Texas Tech University Health Science Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) is seeking an innovative leader to serve as its new Chair of the Department of Radiology. The Chair will serve as the academic and clinical leader of the Department of Radiology with direct reporting to the Dean of the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine. The Chair will develop a vision for excellence in the graduate medical education program, undergraduate education, and delivery of clinical services for the Department of Radiology while building up scholarship in the department.
TTUHSC El Paso is experiencing vibrant growth. TTUHSC El Paso consists of the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, Gayle Greve Hunt School of Nursing, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and a planned school of dental medicine. The Department of Radiology’s subspecialties include Abdominal Imaging, Angiography and Interventional Radiology, Breast Imaging, Diagnostic Ultrasound, Emergency Radiology, Musculoskeletal Radiology, Neuroradiology, Nuclear Radiology, and Thoracic Radiology. Technical modalities of CT, MRI, and Ultrasound are incorporated into many of the subspecialty sections. TTUHSC El Paso faculty provides an integrated learning environment as most work across a number of the specialties and modalities. The residency program is approved for expansion to 12 residents and has 1 Women’s Imaging fellow. Currently, there are 11 faculty members with a current capacity of 15. New offices and teaching space include the Radiology Founders’ Library and Conference Room.
University Medical Center (UMC), the primary teaching hospital, is a Level I trauma center and general hospital servicing El Paso county where radiology residents gain experience working with patients who have both common and complex medical problems. Operating in a filmless and paperless environment since 2005, the technology base of the department is “state-of-the-art” with the latest CT, MR, and information technology systems. The Imaging Department at UMC completed a substantial expansion in June 2012. New facilities for emergency radiology include two Interventional Radiology suites, where one has biplanar capabilities to accommodate Cardiac and Neurology Intervention cases, and a dual-energy CT scanner in the outpatient suite. A new outpatient radiology section accommodates ultrasound and fluoroscopy. Located between the two are nuclear medicine, a new 3.0T MRI, and the interventional radiology suite, which opened in 2014.
Additionally, radiological services are now being provided at the university’s newest hospital partner, The Hospitals of Providence-Transmountain Campus, a new full-service, 106-bed general acute care hospital in a rapidly growing part of El Paso. This previous academic year, the annual total procedures and modalities were approximately 217,952.
The new Chair will have the opportunity to continue the growth and expansion of the clinical and educational services, as well as to provide greater depth to the clinical research program. El Paso consistently ranks as one of the safest, fastest growing, and best places to live in the U.S. This is an excellent leadership opportunity for someone who desires to build and develop an already clinically excellent department into a well-rounded academic department within a young and expanding medical school.
