The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Minnesota is seeking an exceptional MD and/or PhD scientist at 100% appointment for a Research Scientist position (tenure track) at the academic rank of Assistant Professor or higher.
This individual will be responsible for advancing the research mission of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery; the position provides an opportunity to work at the interface of basic and translational stem cell biology. Knowledge of clinical aspects of orthopaedic surgery and a knowledge of musculoskeletal cell biology are essential. The ideal applicant will develop translational therapies for the treatment of orthopaedic diseases.
The primary purposes of this role are to: 1. Perform federally funded basic musculoskeletal research while recognizing the long-term goal of clinical translation as a priority. 2. Evaluate innovative treatments in animal models and collaborate with clinicians to initiate their translation to the clinics. 3. Foster strong collaborations across the Stem Cell Institute and the Academic Health Center to establish a research team that is able to obtain significant and sustained outside/federal funding to support translational musculoskeletal research.
