Under direct supervision, provide support for a multi-site, randomized controlled trial comparing surgical & non-surgical treatment for rotator cuff tears and other musculoskeletal research studies; screen & recruit patients; assist in investigating, gathering, assessing, and clarifying data; and record & distribute information.
Pre-screen patients each day from Vanderbilt Orthopedic clinics
Complete online screening logs
Track patients as necessary to confirm eligibility
Recruit & consent eligible patients in clinic â this involves going to specialty clinics at Vanderbilt and interacting with physicians, nurses and other clinic staff as well as having direct contact with patients.
Administer baseline questionnaires and research procedures with patients who consent to participate in clinical research.
Randomize patients in clinic in strict accordance with protocol procedures
Record patientsâ study participation in StarPanel
Maintain records related to the conduct of clinical research â this includes copying/scanning forms, filing & electronically uploading study-related documents, and recording data directly into REDCap.
Obtain MRI discs for patients recruited
Assist with REDCap data entry (primary & double data entry) as needed
Assist with patient follow up (by mail, phone, or email) as needed
Attend team research meetings
The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, and be comfortable interacting with individuals in a clinical research setting. This position involves face-to-face contact with patients. Thus, the ability to communicate personably and effectively with patients and to- to provide clear, easily understood explanations and answers to questions is essential. This role would be an ideal position for a candidate who has worked previously with patients in a research setting or who would like to gain research experience before applying to graduate or medical school. A two-year commitment is required.
