We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Sr. Grants Manager.
In this role, the successful candidate This position serves as a key liaison between the OSR, SPA, and the research community in the submission and management of large grants and contracts per criteria established by OSR for such grants. A large grant is defined as having NYUSOM as the lead institution, NIH Program Project or Center (P-Series: P01, P30, others), NIH Cooperative Agreements (U-Series: U01, U54, others), or grants with annualized indirect costs $250K, annualized total costs $750K. Large grants include, but not limited to, multi project, multi PI, multi project, and collaborative agreements. This role carries personal responsibility for the management of a grants administration team providing a full range of pre-award and post-award sponsored research services specific to large grants. Has primary responsibility and accountability, in conjunction with the PI, for decisions related to grants, contracts, other awards and large projects. Incumbent is expected to resolve unprecedented and unusual situations, including complex negotiations, through use of experience, independent judgment, and discretion. In addition, the incumbent will provide guidance on strategy, multi-team project structure, large-scale and clinical trial budgeting and management, consortium collaboration processes, etc. to deans, department chairs, center/institute directors, department administrators, faculty and staff regarding sensitive, critical and/or highly complex issues. Interacts with a variety of campus and system-wide offices to facilitate the management, administration, and conduct of large sponsored awards. Assists the Senior Director of Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA) and OSR Leadership in the development and implementation of short and long-range plans for large multi project grants.
- Manages OSR SPA Multi Project and Collaborative Agreements Program.
- Manages a team of grants professionals to ensure high quality service related to large scale proposal development, submission and research award administration.
- Plans and manages group strategy and operations and establishes performance goals for the grants team in order to effectively coordinate and administer the large grants and contracts.
- Ensures that projects are proposed and conducted consistent with NYUSoM and sponsor policies.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for stakeholders both within and outside of the institution on technical and administrative matters over the life of a project..
- Provides expert advise on the subject of sponsored research administration to decision makers at all levels of the organization. Interprets and provides guidance on regulation and policy, proposal guidelines, and award terms and conditions.
- In conjunction with Department Chairs and Administrators reviews proposals submitted by researchers. Evaluates risk and seeks appropriate guidance as required. Verifies that proposals are complete and conform to proposal preparation requirements, and reviews budgets for correctnessconsistant with NYUSOM and sponsor policy as well as the project plan.
- Assists Research Finance in responding to requests for information required by sponsoring agencies and other auditors, including maintaining custody of proposals and award documentation and implementing group processes to ensure files are complete and up-to-date.
- Reports status of grant processing activities for large grants on a regular basis by preparing summary reports of applications submissions and outcomes to OSR leadership and all other appropriate parties as necessary.
- Interfaces with senior management to champion collaboration in order to expedite and facilitate internal processing of proposals.
- Tracks existing grants deadlines, monitors status of progress reports, and seeks continuation of grant funding for current programs through supplemental funding, renewal applications, and other mechanisms as they become available.
- Reports progress and analyzes the large scale project portfolio for opportunities in additional funding and potential collaboration across the SOM and with consortium entities. Meets with OSR Leadership at least quarterly to present progress and analysis and discuss future goals.

To qualify you must have a Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, related degree, or equivalent in education and experience 3-5 years related experience with sponsored programs administration in a healthcare or research setting. Excellent communication skills verbal and written. Excellent customer service skills with an advanced ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse, multicultural environment. Advanced ability to identify highly complex problems and implement appropriate solutions. Proven experience in reviewing and submitting proposals utilizing electronic proposal submission processes and funding mechanisms employed by various extramural sponsors. Advanced ability to rapidly review and accurately analyze policies, procedures, regulations, statutes, and complex documents. Advanced ability to interpret and explain policies, procedures, regulations, statutes and their underlying principles to a variety of audiences, including faculty, department chairs and deans, managers, staff, and external sponsors. In-depth knowledge of the organization's operational, personnel, and financial transactions and systems related to the administration of contracts and grants. Advanced knowledge of research administration policies, procedures, and practices of federal and non-federal sponsors. Ability to provide effective leadership to a team of professional staff in a multi-functional, dynamic, fast-paced and ever-changing environment, including: training; evaluating and managing the performance of employees; establishing individual and team goals; providing constructive and timely feedback regarding job performance; and developing and monitoring professional development plans. Strong interpersonal skills, service orientation, ability to multi-task effectively in a varied, high volume environment, judgment and decision-making, reasoning, ability to develop original ideas to solve problems, and effective verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in use of common desktop/web applications. Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Masters Degree in applicable field (MBA, MPA, MPH, etc.) a plus.
