We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Lead Carpenter in the Engineering Department. To qualify a High School Diploma or equivalent required, graduate from a Trade School with strong carpentry background and experience with power tools preferred. Three (3) years experience required, or equivalent combination of experience and trade school education required. Familiar with NYC Codes of Construction and ADA Compliance functions. The ability to lift a minimum of 100 lbs. and be able to move and transport materials and equipment with or without the use of assistive devices. Must have near-visual acuity, depth perception, field of vision and color vision. Good written, verbal and interpersonal skills with the ability to handle many priority objectives at once with full regard to safety and code compliance.
In this role, the successful candidate will perform a variety of duties relating to various carpentry skills including but not limited to: woodworking, cabinetry, trimming, sheet rocking, flooring, glazing and building renovation. Installs, adjusts and repairs doors and hardware including locks, closures, stops, hinges, etc. Familiar with life safety rated wall/slab inspection requirements; penetration fire stopping basics and system nomenclature to detailed installation techniques. Able to work from drawings and/or verbal instructions to determine materials needed and scope of work assignment. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
Constructs and repairs structural woodwork and equipment working from blueprints and/or verbal instruction. Construct cabinets and furniture using different materials efficiently and effectively.
Erect various types of wood, metal and sheet rock partitions, ceilings and walls.
Replace damaged ceiling tile, install and repair floor and wall ceramic or composite tiles.
Installs, adjusts and repairs doors and hardware including, locks, closures, stops, hinges etc.
Operates various woodworking and related machinery such as; saws, drills, lathes, planners, sanders, etc.
Inspects rated wall/slab to ensure hospital penetration permit requirements are being met. Applies approved fire stopping material to penetrations as per fire stopping basics and system nomenclature to detailed installation techniques.
Exercises initiative and judgment in cutting lumber and using materials so as to avoid waste and is able to adapt materials to requirements of particular problems.
Assist in the handling of all facets of Facilities Engineering maintenance including the storage of hazardous materials and chemicals that the department utilizes.
Ensures adequate inventory of carpentry supplies and material and assist in preparation of requisition list as necessary. Maintains work area in clean and orderly fashion.
Responds to emergencies to make/assist in repairs or replacements.
Provides records of PMs, Maintenance, and Inspections noting defects and deficiencies and tags defective equipment for non-use when necessary.
Demonstrates knowledge of the organization's Service Standards and incorporates them into performance duties.
Performs other duties as assigned in a clean and safe manner.
