The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is seeking a Junior Specialist. Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service. The candidate will be responsible for isolating different stem cell populations from muscles using Fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS), culture muscle stem cells under normal and hypoxia environment, contact and non-contact coculture for those cells, define gene expression profile of those cells using high resolution RNA-sequencing and real-time RT-PCR, protein extraction and Western-blot, muscle histology, lab maintenance, such as ordering supplies, safety compliance and cleaning.
Required Qualifications: • Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience (e.g., with instrumentation and research equipment, social science research methods, or creative activities). • BA/BS in Cellular or Molecular Biology major is preferred • Taken Chemistry and Biology courses with laboratory components • Basic research experience in biological science • Working experience with FACS, muscle stem cell culture, RNA extraction and purification, RT-PCR. • Working experience with mouse skeletal muscle harvesting, sectioning and oil red O, Trichrome and immunofluorescence staining. • Working experience with transgenic mouse colonies maintenance and genotyping. • Knowledge of second generation RNA-sequencing • Knowledge of in situ and in vitro muscle mechanical testing. • Demonstrated excellent verbal, written and communication skills • Proven computer skills including Microsoft office, FlowJo, ImageJ, Prism
