Directly care for patients on the orthopaedic trauma service; improve quality and efficiency of orthopaedic service at VCU Health System; provide prompt high-quality trauma care; develop orthopaedic faculty with interest in new technologies, clinical research and teaching; mentor residents and fellows; work within the hospital system and with other departments to provide multidisciplinary care for trauma patients.
Teaching: Staff inpatient housestaff teaching service with learners including medical students, interns, residents and fellows; use contemporary adult learning methods to promote evidence-based practice; demonstrate effective teaching skills and continually develop as a teacher for learners at all levels; complete required evaluations of learners in a timely manner.
Research: Participate in clinical and administrative research, according to skills, interest and funding; research opportunities may include performance improvement initiatives or formal extramurally funded investigations; participation may be as principle investigator or co-investigator/ maintain a level of scholarship in Orthopaedic Surgery consistent with academic rank.
Service: Work with institutional staff and administration to attain the strategic objectives of VCU Health System, including patient safety, patient and other customer satisfaction maintenance and enhancement of public perception, and fiscal health.
Clinical: Admit and manage patients who present through the orthopaedic trauma service, co-management of patients on other services, triage medicine patient requiring admission in the Emergency Department and non-medical services and non-VCU hospitals; Orchestrate colleagues to assure coverage 24-hours a day, every day of the year; comply in a timely manner with all institutional policies for professional work including credentialing, documentation, billing; work effectively with other members of the extended inter-professional team.
Other: Ensure compliance with all regulatory and regulatory reimbursement requirements.
MD degree and ABOS eligibility of certification in orthopaedic surgery; must have successfully completed an accredited fellowship program in orthopaedic trauma medicine; a record of scholarly publication in peer review journals; direct experience managing complex orthopaedic trauma cases, competence in standard inpatient procedures; a solid understanding of the traumatologist’s role and function and in interest in teaching and growth in an academic setting; demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment orcommitment to do so as a ffaculty member at VCU.
Demonstrated ability to work as a leader of a team, providing effective communication, both verbal and written, and an interest in furthering the research, scholarly and academic missions of the group.
