This position is in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. The position is located at 4625 Lindell. This position is for the Medical School Campus.
Position manages process to optimize Department clinical revenues and to achieve performance standards established by Department leadership. Plans, communicates, and implements strategies to improve processes, system workflows, and financial results.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages revenue cycle functions including pre-authorizations, billing, collections, claim appeals, and AR management. Maintains knowledge of the operational details of all team functions.
Analyzes accounts receivable and productivity reports and indicators weekly and presents results to Executive Director. Identifies variances for specific payors, clinical sub-specialties, and individual providers.
Examines claim rejection patterns by payor and procedure, and develops action plan for correction.
Develops goals and plans for improvement in all operational areas that relate to revenue cycle. Oversees execution of these plans and goal achievement. Monitors overall workload in the department, and distributes duties accordingly.
Hires, trains, and mentors revenue cycle team members. Manages 35+ staff and interacts with 70+ providers.
Works closely with clinical operations director and teams to improve workflows and communications.
Works with the Executive Director and Department leadership to identify key performance indicators and review results.
Responsible for overseeing physician billing compliance program in coordination with the OPBC.
Works with coding specialists and providers to develop plans for physician coding education and compliance.
Interacts with representatives of major third party carriers to resolve claim problems and discuss changes in third party programs.
Prepares annual budget and manages cost centers to achieve operational efficiencies.
Equivalent of BS in finance, accounting or health related field with training and experience in healthcare finance, accounting, and/or accounts receivable.
Minimum 5 years supervisory experience.
Healthcare background and advanced degree desirable.
Experience with process improvement desirable.
Working knowledge of finance and full revenue cycle (billing, collections, AR management, pre-authorizations, and coding)
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with individuals at various levels. People management experience.
Ability to manage multiple tasks.
Good organization and planning skills.
Ability to analyze and resolve highly difficult problems, to integrate information from multiple sources, to utilize creative thinking and to exercise considerable judgment and resourcefulness.
Possess strong interpersonal, communication, organization, management and supervisory skills.
Position requires diplomacy and confidentiality due to highly sensitive information utilized or accessed.
Experience in EPIC Electronic Medical Records experience highly preferred.
Leadership experience in an academic or healthcare environment; orthopedic surgery or surgery specialty experience preferred.
PC software knowledge. Excel, Power Point, and Word skills.
The hiring range for this position is $87,172 - $115,481 annually.
