The UCI Department of Biomedical Engineering in the Henry Samueli School of Engineering is currently accepting applications for a postdoctoral scholar to join the DELTAi (Driving Engineering & Life-science Translational Advances @ Irvine, sites.uci.edu/deltai). The main objectives of this lab's research is to engineer device- and biologically-based solutions to medical problems. Work will begin in the orthopaedics area but may broaden into other medical specialties as well. Individual is expected to provide engineering and design expertise to engineer medical devices and enhance their translational potential. Additional work may include cell culture, mechanical testing, and histological and biochemical assays. Duties will include designing experiments and conducting independent research, preparing study results for publication, and supervising/training graduate and undergraduate students in proper laboratory research techniques and record-keeping. Requirements: Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in mechanical, biochemical, electrical, or a related field. Engineering background with hands-on experience in prototyping, computer-aided design and modeling, subtractive and additive manufacturing (e.g., machining and 3D printing), biophotonics, and preferably medical devices as well. It is expected that the candidate will be comfortable initiating projects independently by identifying medical problems and proposing designs and solutions. Experience with cell culture is preferred but not required. Excellent verbal and communications skills in the English language is required. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and years of experience.
