Full Time 40 hours Grade 077 Ctr Musculoskeletal Research Schedule 8 AM-4:30 PM Responsibilities Position Summary: This position is within the Eliseev and Mesfin Laboratories in the Center for Musculoskeletal Research. The job consists of laboratory work to study musculoskeletal disorders. This position requires mouse handling (mating, weaning, etc.), mouse recovery surgery, tissue harvest and sample processing (preparation of mouse tissues for histology and microCT analyses), molecular biology skills (PCR, gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, etc.), cell culture skills (mammalian cell culture, transfection), data analysis/interpretation, excellent organizational skills, and careful attention to detail. Specific Responsibilities: Breed, maintain, and genotype mice and keep detailed electronic inventory records of the mouse colonies.Perform surgical procedures such as mouse tail compression and tibia fracture Dissection of postnatal mouse skeletal tissues, sectioning of paraffin or frozen tissues, histological staining, histomorphometry, and immunohistochemistry of samples. Isolation and culture of primary cells and cell lines. Isolation and analysis of RNA and protein from cell cultures via real time quantitative PCR and Western blotting, respectively. Maintenance of a detailed lab notebook with experimental detail, methods, data compilation and data analysis and interpretation included. Requirements: Associate's degree in appropriate discipline plus 2-3 years specialized experience in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 2 years of experience with mouse work and cell culture is preferred. Additional specific training will be provided.
