The Department of Orthopedics is actively searching for a mid-career scientist with an interest in basic and/or translational research related to musculoskeletal disorders. Applicants should have a strong record of research funding and publication. The successful candidate will be expected to continue an independent research program with their current grant funding and with a future of sustainable funding potential and programmatic growth within the department. Research will include wet bench laboratory work and may also include bioengineering and potentially clinical investigation. A broad range of musculoskeletal research activities is acceptable provided there is an emphasis on eventual clinical applicability/translation of research. This faculty appointment would ideally be at the Associate Professor level (other levels considered).
The University of Colorado Denver is located on a new $2.5 billion dollar campus that combines state of the art medical facilities and basic science research. The Department of Orthopedics has several laboratories for basic research (Stem Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biomechanics, and Gait and Movement Analysis). The department conducts basic, translational, and clinical research on adult reconstruction, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, fracture repair, growth plate repair, lower back pain, scoliosis, metabolism, prosthesis design and other orthopedic topics. Research is conducted by junior and senior faculty members, residents, medical students and graduate students.

Expectations •Continue to actively obtain substantial research funds •Collaboration with Orthopedic faculty •Attendance at monthly faculty meetings, monthly Grand Rounds, and Annual Faculty Retreat •Participation in department and institutional committees •2-3 lectures per year to residents and other CU students/trainees •Mentoring of trainees and junior faculty •Membership in the University of Colorado Medicine (formerly UPI) •Abide by State of Colorado rules and policies.

Minimum requirements: To be eligible, applicants must: •Have received a PhD, DVM, MD, DO or from an accredited institution •Must be eligible to submit applications to NIH, NSF, and DOD funding agencies •Must complete the application requirements listed below
Preferred qualifications: •Ability to move with research funds •Experience mentoring of trainees and junior faculty
